I read somewhere about using a ball marked with a line when putting as a good exercise. What is the line for? How does that help with putting? Ladybug

Many players place a straight line on their ball to aid them in their putting. Putting involves two factors, line and speed. The line is the initial direction you want to start the ball on based on how you think it is going to roll and break during its path toward the hole. The speed is simply how hard the player needs to hit the ball to get to the hole. Many players use the line on the ball to help line up the direction they want to start their putt on based on how they think the ball will break. Once they have the ball placed and the line set up all they need to do is address the ball with the head (or face) of their club directly perpendicular to the line on top of the ball. It simply makes putting the ball in a specific and accurate direction with some consistency much easier. Steve O
