Lately I have been working on shortening my backswing to produce a better follow through to achieve more accuracy but keep just as much distance in my golf swing.
In the past while trying to generate more power I was not aware that my club's shaft at the top of my backswing went beyond parallel until a friend with whom I was playing suggested I shorten my backswing. As he so simply stated "the further your club head is from the ball the further it has to travel to get back to the ball and so much can go wrong while traveling that longer distance." "Keep it short and sweet," he said "and reap the fruits of your accuracy."
Here is a video by "Tom Cannarozzo, PGA Teaching Professional at Chenal CC in Little Rock, AR" that helped me understand what I was doing incorrectly.
Also here is another video entitled "Overswinging by Sam Snead" that also brought about some clarity regarding this issue.
