Golfers Show Their Support of Big Bend Hospice, So Let The Games Begin!

Let The Games BeginThe threat of rain did nothing to dampen the spirits of the 172 golfers who turned out to play in Dr. Bass’ Large Mouth Open Golf Tournament at Golden Eagle Country Club on September 14th.  This was the ninth annual tournament benefiting Big Bend Hospice, which was founded as an outreach of Faith Presbyterian Church by former pastor Dr. Glenn Bass.

Now, with the help of a devoted golf committee made up of local businessmen and women including Dr. Bass, Ben Wilkinson, Bo Bludworth, Bob Olive, Brooke Hallock, Chris Counts, Jim Cherry, Lou Fellenz, Michael Kramer, Michael Penny, Michelle Lawley-Griggs, Nick Nixon, Roy Young, Sandy Safley, Noreen Martin, Sam Ard and Steve Rogers, the tournament has grown into one of the largest in the area.  This year’s tournament featured fabulous prizes from local golf clubs and retailers, and even a chance to play for a trip to St. Andrews in Scotland!

"Proceeds from this wonderful tournament will benefit our Big Bend Hospice Caring Tree program, which provides grief support for children and teens in the community, and is an unfunded program,” said Angela Fortunas, Executive Director of the Big Bend Hospice Foundation.

Capital City Bank has been the title sponsor of the tournament for the past five years, and other sponsors this year included Tallahassee Democrat, Wakulla Bank, Florida Bank, Cumulus Broadcasting, Comcast, Lamar Advertising, Tri-Eagle Sales, Mainline Information Systems, Greenberg Traurig, BB&T, Landrum-Yaeger, Bob & Gail Knight, Coca-Cola, Golf Plus, Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association, and Amundsen & Smith.

This year’s tournament winners included Morning Session:  1st Place – Thomas, Howell, Ferguson, PA, Team Captain, Justin Edenfield; 2nd Place - Waste Pro, Team Captain, Richard Chatam; 3rd Place – EMO Architects, Team Captain, Robert Ihasz.  Afternoon Session:  1st Place – Enhanced Financial Services, Team Captain, Howard Eisenman; 2nd Place – Florida Association of Insurance Agents, Team Captain, Dave Burt.  3rd Place – Florida Bank, Team Captain, Nick Nixon.

A special thanks goes out to all of the volunteers who assisted with this year’s tournament, including members of the FSU Women’s Golf Team! Golfbytez.com would like to thank Laurie Ward the Big Bend Hospice, Inc. Community Outreach Coordinator for sharing this editorial with our community.
