"Shoot The Moon" a Nighttime Golfing Experience. What a novel idea!
Golfer Playing in the Dark

Q: Did you see it? A: Sort of.

Q: Where did it go? A: Somewhere over there.

Q: Where? A: I'm not sure; oh! here it is.

Q: Does it have my ball mark? A: I don't know; it's too dark.

Q: Where is the flashlight they gave us? A: In the cart.

Q: Where's the cart? A: I don't know; it's too dark. Q: Wish there was a moon? A: Oh no! Someone shot the moon.

On October 9, 2009 a charitable golf tournament to benefit "Keep Tallahassee-Leon County Beautiful" was held at Summerbrooke GolfClub in Tallahassee, Florida. The first nine holes of "Shoot The Moon" as it is called began at 5:30 pm while the evening sun was still high in the sky and continued after a supper break until about midnight on fairways illuminated with glow stick and pins marked with flashing rings of light. {Some of these glow-in-the-dark golfing products are available at Golf Etc.}

Golfers Before Tee-time

I covered this event with eager anticipation not knowing what in the world to expect, but with great regards and willingness to experience whatever golfing in the the dead of night had to drive my way. That which I encountered was "The Novelty Of A Lifetime!" Golfers came together to support a cause designed at Keeping Tallahassee and Leon County Beautiful. Many of the participants had played this tournament before but newcomers realized in a very short space of time why people keep returning to play in this amazing event. And it was an amazing event.

The first team we shadowed was Lee's group which consisted of Phil, Bob, Lee and Frank (l-r) seen in the photo below.

Lee and Team-mates

On the 10th tee at the beginning of the tournament, Lee hit a nice drive below. The 10th hole is quite challenging since the fairway goes uphill after leaving the tee box before it plateaus and the green on this par 4 is so well concealed high on the hill before a slight dog-leg to the right.

Frank also hit a successful drive uphill in the middle of the fairway.

Phil uses his iron to get on the green in two.

Bob also made very good use of his iron from the middle of the fairway to stick it on the green.

Danny, the owner of Full Press Apparel, and his team-mates seen teeing off in the videos below on the 11th hole. A very narrow section of the fairway runs along side a large body of water to the left and a public roadway to the right which makes getting to the rest of the fairway and green beyond on this par 4 nothing short of worrisome. Members of the team are Dean, Danny, Brandon and Ben (l-r).

Danny and Team-mates

Danny in this video had no trouble getting across the water.

Neither did Ben.

Brandon had a great drive with a nice tight, very controlled backswing and excellent follow though.

Another team we had fun watching play was Dan and his team-mates. Dan is one of the golf pros at Seminole Golf Course in Tallahassee and an amazing teacher. If you want a well rounded lesson in golf give Dan a call, he is awesome. We caught up with them working their magic on the green of the 10th hole. Members of the team include Wes, Brice, Daniel and Dan (l-r). Wes was so very relaxed when putting (b-r) with his glove in his mouth.

Dan in the video below putting on the 10th green showing Daniel the line. The lay of this green was rather deceiving.

And Daniel read it right but missed it by a smidge.

Steve from Golf Etc's group played very well. Both Steve and Kyle was in the company of two very charming ladies who also were no strangers to the game of golf. Mary and Sharon held their by being two very good ball strikers themselves.

Sooooooooooooo Close

Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Close!

As I like to say, this is where the fun starts.

Kyle on the 11th tee putting the metal to the ball and firing it over the water on that same intimidating par 4 with such ease.

Steve also on the 11th tee driving the ball sucessfully over the water and in the middle of the fairway.

I told you that Mary knew her way around the golf course. Watch her drive from the 11th tee.

The best is yet to come! Please stay tuned for Part #2 of this event coming in the very near future.
