When it comes to caring for the children in our community, nobody does it better than Cops For Kids!
Since this website's inception, it has been our mission to provide a forum for the golfing community to share worthwhile information. It has also been our primary focus to foster an environment dedicated to helping non-profit organizations reach their goals and objectives and this would not be possible without the generosity from a collective audience of golfing enthusiasts. We have been extremely fortunate to be given the opportunity to serve at some amazing golfing events and to be a part of something bigger than our selves.
Golfbytez.com would like to salute all these clubs and organizations, their members, volunteers, sponsors, golfers and establishments for their tireless efforts and never ending support by being a life line while keeping the dreams alive for these very worthy causes. I would also like to thank retired Law Enforcement Chief AJ Smith for inviting us to cover this event and embracing the significance of all that can be accomplished by people working together. Thanks AJ.
Cops Fore Kids Charity Golf Tournament welcomed the heart felt generosity from over 100 golfers who attended the 9th annual event held on the 26th of October at Southwood Golf Club in Tallahassee, Florida. A quote from their website shares that "Since 1999, Cops for Kids of Tallahassee has provided more than 4000 bicycles and helmets as well as school clothes and supplies to needy & deserving children in our community, who are identified to us through the Christmas Connection, Boys and Girls Clubs of the Big Bend and other recognized social service agencies. This group of North Florida law enforcement officers works all year fostering positive relationships between the police and citizens of the Big Bend and in support of programs designed to protect our youth. All items are purchased through the generous donations of individuals and businesses in and around Leon County. You can help by donating now. If you can't afford to make a monetary donation but would like to support us, come help us put bikes together and distribute them at Christmas!"
[Here are a group of golfers on the driving range and practice green before the event:]
It was a slightly overcast North Florida morning and the perfect fall weather for playing golf. Men and women from various law enforcement communities throughout Florida, Georgia and Alabama came together with sponsors, business affiliates and loved ones by assembling teams to participate in the best ball, shot gun style tournament to raise funds and awareness for helping our youth. Companies like WalMart, Golf Etc, Data Securities, Broadview Assisted Living and Harry's Bar and Grill (who served up a delicious lunch buffet) to name a few of the sponsors who helped make this tournament so successful.
[Golfers seen here prior to the beginning of the tournament:]
[Golfers below making their way to the various tee locations throughout the course:]
Team-mates Brad, Sarah, Anthony and Jessie (l-r) take time for a photo on the course. I had a good time covering and speaking with them while playing the 10th hole. Very nice people. Thanks.
Both Jessie and Anthony seen above, making their shots for the green from the groups best drive on the fairway.
Another group of golfers I had a great time covering was team-mates Jim, John, Pete and Steve (l-r below left pic). We all laughed a lot and shared great a conversation about them playing in the tournament.
[Jim, below, on the 12th tee.]
[Pete, below, also on the 12th tee.]
[And John with his approach shot from the fairway.]
Pete and Steve, above, are putting from a good location, the result of a great approach shot onto the green.
Jerry's group and I shared memorable golfing moments on the 12th tee. Team-mates consist of Garrich, Steve, Tim and Jerry (l-r below). Jerry and Steve also seen producing amazing drives on the tee.
Carolyn and her team-mates were very gracious to allow me the opportunity to cover them playing a few holes which I thoroughly enjoyed. They were such great sports and one of the few teams which had women golfers participating in this event. All the women played as hard and as competitive as the men and made great shots from the tees to the greens. Don and Trudy traveled from central Florida to enjoy playing 18 fun filled holes of golf with Bryan and Carolyn. Their team consisted of Bryan, Carolyn, Trudy and Don (l-r below) and a few golf course highlights in the photos and videos below.
[Trudy, below, on the 15th tee with a nice and easy swing.]
[Don, in the photo below, using his iron with his approach shot on the 15th fairway.]
Trudy and her team-mates below celebrate after completing their putt on the 15th hole.
I met up with Leon County Sheriff Larry Campbell and his team-mates on the tee box at the 16th hole. Larry's group consisted of Scott, Gene, Larry and Billy who hits the ball a mile. I would like to commend these guys for supporting such a worthy cause while having so much fun on the course and playing a great round of golf.
[Billy seen below driving the cover off the ball on the 16th tee with a shot down the middle.]
[Gene also on the 16th tee with a another nice drive.]
[Scott also on the 16th tee with his "holy cow" shot.]
[Finally Sheriff Campbell with his drive from the 16th tee.]
This was a rewarding hole for the Sheriff and his team-mates.
I also met up with Wade and his group on the 4th hole. This team consisted of Antonio, Wade, Kenny and Brian (l-r below).
[Below is a video of Wade with his tee shot. He covered a lot of yardage on that drive.]
[Also Brian and Antonio with their contributions to the team.]
Another group of golfers I spent some time with was Scott, Jim, Steven and Luke. I met up with them on the 7th hole and covered them for a few great holes of golf. Below is Scott on the tee.
[Luke seen here on the tee with a nice drive.]
[Also Steven with his approach shot. Boy, does he have an easy tempo and smooth swing.]
[And Jim with a very successful bump and run chip shot onto the green putting the team in a good putting position. Well done Jim.)
The three photos below feature Luke (l) on the fairway, Scott (c) and Jim (r) on the green finishing up their putts.
On the 15th hole Jim and his team-mates took a moment to pose for a photo. Members of the group were Jim, Ryan, Matt and Kevin (l-r) in the photo below. Ryan (c) and Matt (r) delivering their tee shots on the 15th hole.
The photos below are of golfers and sponsors who participated in this year's event.
Finally the award ceremony was held under the big top on the lawn in front of the club house. Lunch was catered by Harry's Bar and Grill located on Clayman plaza who was a sponsor. Shawn, the owner, served up their superb chicken and pasta dish. I highly recommend stopping by and trying their lunch or dinner entrees.
We are also working on full length video productions from this and other Gbytez Live! events.
Purchasing a copy of the DVD's from these events will further benefit the organizations we so proudly support.
