The rivalry is on at the 91st Annual US PGA Championship being played at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minnesota. The last time a major was played there was in 2002 and was won by Rich Beem who after today's round is -1 with a score of 71. Click for more on the 2009 PGA Championship. Both Tiger Woods and Padraig Harrington who shared the stage at the final curtain of the Bridgestone Invitational last week are together again and this could promise to be a fierce competition at this years Championship. The leaders at the end of today's cut are:

1st Round, Par 72   Score World Ranking
Tiger Woods -5 67 1
Padraig Harington -4 68 10
Vijay Singh -3 69 12
Robert Allenby -3 69 30
Mathew Goggin -3 69 48

Vijay Singh made an amazing shot onto the green and the ball had so much back spin that it backed up some distance towards the hole and was as close as a hog's breath from falling in.

Phil Mickelson had some difficulty at times with his shots around the green and missed a few short putts on both the 5th and 10th holes. He is presently +2 with 34 putts with a score of 74. After his round today he headed to the practice green to work on his putting.

Alvero Quiros, ranked 39 in the world, was given a special invitation to play in this years tournament. He had 6 birdies and 3 bogies and finished today with -3 for a score of 69. His ball speed has been tracked at 190+ mph and too stands a chance at winning the trophy.

The BIG! question on everybody's mind is, will this be a repeat performance of last weeks contest at the Bridgestone Invitational between Tiger and Harrington; will Vijay make his presence felt by applying enough pressure to the leaders from behind with great shots and low scores that forces them to falter; or, can Phil get his putting grove on and pull a rabbit out from under his cap and walk away with the trophy wearing that brilliant smile? Can Tiger pull this one off?

We want to know, "WHAT DO YOU THINK?"

I think Phil will turn his putting around and win this baby by two strokes.

I have to agree with Charles. The tournament has just begun and Sunday is a log ways away. I believe Phil is going to turn his putter around and take it to the cup with these guys. I think it will be extremely close but he will pull it off. Just wait and see.

Well done Korea's YE Yang in his stunning upset. Even though I was rooting for Tiger to win I am happy for Yang that he took home the bacon.

What happened to Phil and Vijay. I suppose, that's why they call this game golf.
